This system of healing was developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and the word ‘Reiki’ literally translates as ‘universal life force energy’. During a session, the practitioners’ hands are placed slightly above the recipient and Reiki energy is channelled through the practitioner and is drawn in by the recipient. Reiki may help with a variety of physical and emotional problems, including stress, depression, anxiety, and pain. Each Reiki healing is unique to the individual and may be experienced as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, or coolness, or you may simply experience a feeling of complete relaxation, helping reduce stress and promote healing by encouraging a healthy flow of energy. Reiki healing can also be given over a distance.
Keep in mind that Reiki is a form of complementary therapy, which means it works alongside – not in place of – other medical and therapeutic techniques. Expect to feel deeply relaxed during a session. So – Don’t try to relax, just let Reiki relax you.
